Christie Park/Somerset Riverside Park, Coleraine

This short linear riverside cycle route connects two of Coleraine's public parks, both of contrasting nature. The route follows the west bank of the river, affording splendid views over the river towards Mountsandel, the site of the first recorded human settlement in Ireland. Traffic free route suitable for family cycling.

Route Description

This short family cycle ride starts at the main car park within Christie Park, located on the westen bank of the Lower Bann between the two road bridges in Coleraine town centre. Cyclists follow the riverside path in a southerly direction, passing under the Sandelford Bridge, and continuing south through Somerset Riverside Park, until reaching the end of the route at the public car park. At this point cyclists can turn and retrace their route back to the start, or enjoiy a walk through Somerset Forest on the opposite side of the road.


Getting to the Start

NCN 93 and 96 (The Lower Bann Cycleway) both pass through Christie Park.

Coleraine is serviced by the Belfast/Londonderry railway line and Ulsterbus services.

Christie Park is accessed by car via Strand Road (A29).


Traffic

Public car parks at both ends of the linear cycle route.

Refreshments available in Coleraine. Toilet facilities at Christie Park Car Park.
