This 191 hectare estate has been transformed into a wonderful park with all manner of attractions, activities, mature woodland and magnificent coastal views. This short 1km route takes you to the centre of the action where you can explore all the park has to offer.

Route Description

From Drains Bay the route starts with a colourful children’s playground, then continues along until you see a National Cycle Network milestone directing you to turn left onto a mature tree-lined avenue. Continue towards another children’s activity centre, and then right onto the park’s main road. This is shared with cars and walkers.

At the Visitor Centre just ahead, pick up a leaflet and begin exploring all the attractions at your leisure. The unique hornbeam maze in the shape of Northern Ireland, woodland walks, beautiful walled garden with sundials, Activity Centre and the Family Zone should keep your family busy for most of the day. To exit, retrace your tracks back to Drains Bay or continue along the main exit onto the Causeway Coastal Route.

Getting to the Start

Carnfunnock Country Park lies 3.5 miles north of Larne on the Causeway Coastal Route. Approach from Drains Bay car park on Route 93 or further north through the main park entrance on the A2.


Mostly traffic free. Some slow moving traffic.


Public toilets, visitor centre with gift shop and cafe, caravan park & campsite. To check cafe opening hours ring 07933 884350.

Mostly on flat tarmac roads or footpath. Accessible toilets available at Drains Bay, Carnfunnock Visitor Centre and Activity Centre.
