Davagh Forest, Cookstown
Local cycling club, Carn Wheelers are holding a mountain bike race in Davagh Forest on Saturday 19th June. This race is the third round of the Ulster Cross Country League with a busy timetable of youth, womens and mens races on the day.
Davagh has been used in the past as a venue, but for this year a new course has been mapped out at the northern end of the forest very close to the forests main car park. The venue provides excellent underage courses for the U8's and U10's close to the start finish area. The main course contains some of the best sections of single track in the forest.
The main course is just under 3.8 miles with 450 ft of climbing. This is a fast course, approximately 25% fire roads the rest is fast flowing single track with some wider section which should provide plenty of overtaking opportunities. With two river crossing to contend with this is a course with a little bit of everything thrown in.
For those riders new to the sport or returning after a period away from racing this course is a great introduction to XC Racing without being overly technical, but will still provide a great course for the Senior categories.
For the underage riders the U8's and U10's have their own mini course in a dry wood between the main car park and the start/finish area for the main course. U12's will be using a half lap of the main course with the U14's getting to enjoy one lap of the main course.
Start Time : 11:00AM / End Time(approx): 4:00PM
Start Point: Davagh Forest
