The route from Whiteabbey to Belfast via Hazelbank Park is a shared pedestrian and cycle path along the shore of Belfast Lough. Older pedestrians, children and dog walkers use this path. There are access points to the beach and people may not be aware of cyclists as they come up to the path. Newtownabbey Council have posted 'Slow Down' and '5mph' notices and an advisory code for cyclists and walkers. Be particularly aware when approaching pedestrians from behind; slow down and pass with care. If you wish to avoid pedestrians there is a cycle path on the section of the Shore Road footpath from Whiteabbey to Hazelbank Park where you can rejoin the cycle path.
